Sydney Ballesteros is a Mexican American Stylist, Creative Director and the Founder/Editor-in-Chief of Territory Magazine.
The breadth of Sydney’s multi-disciplinary background as a creative talent is reflected in the visual scope and scale of her work as a Creative Director, Stylist + Editor, which includes a full production agenda through editorial print, film, brand and runway–to residential interior styling and staging. An aesthete visionary, she naturally and intuitively rests in the parallel world of her love for both fashion, interior decoration, architecture + art history which translates into her conceptualizations for select interior sourcing, styling + design projects.
Her creative practice is informed by her connection to the culture of her native hometown in the southwest state of Tucson, Arizona. Its grounding evolved through a combination of her sonoran desert roots and surroundings, her resourceful upbringing, her Mexican heritage, the influence of her musician parents, and the style informed women of her lineage–who passed on an early introduction to the appreciation and details of design in both wardrobe and interiors as an expression and an art form. An early advocate of styling with vintage pieces, both out of necessity and articulation– she has specialized in, sourced, studied and worked with the medium for over two decades. She is a collector of vintage with a deep passion for the art in its one-off form, historical significance and storytelling–as well as its implications for sustainability. Her expertise for transforming concepts into visual narratives is called upon by clients for direction, styling, design and creative consulting.
Sydney is also the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Territory Magazine, the southwest regions preeminent independent lifestyle publication, for which she oversees all editorial and production aspects–from conceptualizing stories + content, to art direction, styling, production, design + layout. Territory is a slow journal print publication, that displays itself in an art book format, solely dedicated to the authentic representation of the stories, culture, visuals, traditions and heritage of those who honor + inhabit the ancient landscapes in the region of the southwest and Mexico borderlands.
“Sydney has a niche and unique eye for bringing a lifelong study in fashion history, vintage clothing and past style inspiration, into a freshly refined and modern day, wearable feel. Her ability to unite disparate concepts, genres and eras and to see beauty in unconventional things, and her attention to details has earned her a loyal following.” – Claudine Villardito (Owner of Black Cat Vintage)
“Finding oneself is the true project of each of our lives, and when someone achieves it, the world can tell. Sydney knows herself, and she uses that knowledge and confidence to build a platform that showcases a deeper truth about the world she lives in.”– Maria Manuela (Arts Editor, UNUM Magazine)
